Michael McDowell is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series driver from Glendale, Ariz. His “McBlog” appears weekly during the NASCAR season at and . In this installment, McDowell discusses his recent runs at Watkins Glen.

I love Watkins Glen not just because I am a road racer but also because the fans that show up love racing. The energy level is as high a Bristol on a Saturday night.

We had a great weekend at the Glen. Even though we suffered a little damage in the Nationwide Race we had a fantastic race car. At the end of the race I had to nurse it home a little bit … the radiator was smashed in, the motor was overheating and spitting water out. We were very fortunate to see the checker flags in 10th place.

The cup race was fun for me as well. I got to run a decent amount of laps and even though we do not run the full race, I got to mix it up a bit. I hope that in the near future I will land a cup deal that allows me to race. In the meantime I’m giving it my all and enjoying it. As easy as it would be to be miserable about not racing, I feel very blessed to be 1 of 43 every weekend.

I returned to the MacDonald Motorsports shop this week to work on sponsorship as well as my Go-Karts. I forget how much I enjoy working with Randy MacDonald and his family. They are great people with huge hearts and I pray that we will be able to finish this season out together.

Trevor Bayne, Justin Marks and I did some karting this week as well. We went to Kershaw, S.C. with our 125 TAG Karts. (See YouTube link: I love karting … it is a true passion of mine and I wish I could do it every week.  Growing up in Phoenix, I went out to PKRA every week for 10 years. Justin Marks and I are building Mooresville Motorplex that will be a world class Karting facility in Mooresville, N.C. and after that is built I can kart every day with my son.
