A longtime contributor to the history of the NASCAR Camping World Series West, Phoenix International Raceway has secured the season finale and will host two races on the regional tour in 2010. Each of the two Camping World Series West races at Phoenix International Raceway will align with the track's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event weekends, with the spring race taking place on Thursday, April 8 and the new autumn race occurring on Thursday, November 11. "We are honored that the NASCAR Camping World Series West has chosen Phoenix International Raceway to host its prestigious season finale," Sperber said. "We are certain that our race fans will be just as excited as the competitors to conclude the season here in the Valley of the Sun." Since Cale Yarborough's win in the track's first series race in 1977 - an event which followed the driver's second Cup Series championship by one week - the Camping World Series West has competed 33 times at Phoenix International Raceway. 24 of those events have taken place as standard races, with the remaining nine being combination events with the Sprint Cup Series between 1988 and 1996. Seven of the nine combination races and eight others between 1977 and 1984 also acted as the season's concluding race. Phoenix International Raceway hosted two events in the series each year from 2003 to 2006. NASCAR Camping World Series West winners at Phoenix International Raceway include Richard Petty (three wins), Bobby Allison, and Ken Schrader, who leads all drivers with four wins in the series at the track. Current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Joey Logano and David Gilliland are other past race champions in the Valley of the Sun, and West Coast natives Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch are among the drivers to have traversed through the noted feeder division on the way to Sprint Cup success. Tickets to witness the championship atmosphere of the November NASCAR event weekend at Phoenix International Raceway - with prices as low as $25 for the Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 - can be purchased online at the newly-designed PhoenixRaceway.com or by calling 1-866-408-RACE (7223). The PIR Ticket Office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 125 S. Avondale Blvd., just south of I-10 at Exit 131 in Avondale.
